Many people collect things; well, I collect rollerskates!
A rollerskate museum has to be in Belgium, because long time ago a Belgian named Jean-Joseph Merlin (born september 17 1735) was the actual inventor of the rollerskate. In the 18th century he showed the world the first rollerskates at a "Bal Masqué". Merlin grew up in the French speaking part of Belgium in a town called ”Hoei”. At school he was trained to become a watchmaker. As hobby he liked to invent things.
As an active rollerskater in hockey and freestyle, I'm able to show you the different types off skates that have been brought on the market through the years.
The purpose of this museum is to keep the memories of our youth alive; just remember when you tried to stay on those things the first time. Also for those who need more information or pictures.
During your tour on the website you will see all kinds of different skates from the past and some made for special disciplines and purposes.
You can find the museum in the Flemish speaking part of Belgium, a town called “Brecht”, near the world port Antwerp.
Let’s hope that Mr. Jaques Rogge, who is also a Belgian citizen, one day will introduce rollerskating an Olympic discipline.
If you're searching for more information look at the different menus on the left.
From this point everything should "roll" smoothly.
